<p>Brown rice is a whole grain  white rice before it has been refined and polished and stripped of the bran covering, which is high in fiber and nutrients. Brown rice also has a lower glycemic index than white rice, which means it doesnt cause blood glucose levels to rise as rapidly.</p>
<p>Now a new study from researchers at Harvard reports that Americans who eat two or more servings of brown rice a week reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by about 10 percent compared to people who eat it less than once a month. And those who eat white rice on a regular basis  five or more times a week  are almost 20 percent more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than those who eat it less than once a month.</p>
<p>Just replacing a third of a serving of white rice with brown each day could reduce ones risk of Type 2 diabetes by 16 percent, a statistical analysis showed. A serving is a cup of cooked rice.<br />
The study, which used data from two Harvard nurses health studies and a separate study of health professionals, isnt the first to point a finger at foods like white rice as a culprit in Type 2 diabetes. A 2007 study of Chinese women in Shanghai found that middle-aged women who ate large amounts of white rice and other refined carbohydrates were also at increased risk for diabetes compared to their peers who ate less.</p>
<p>But the Harvard study is one of the first to distinguish between brown rice and white rice consumption in the United States, where rice is not a staple food and relatively little is eaten overall, said Dr. Qi Sun, an instructor in medicine at Brigham and Womens Hospital, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Many food studies simply lump brown and white rice together.</p>
<p>The bottom line is we showed evidence that increased consumption of white rice  even at this low level of intake  is still associated with increased risk, said Dr. Sun, who was at the Harvard School of Public Health when the study was done. Its really recommended to replace white rice with the same amount of brown rice or other whole grains.</p>
<p>The researchers who did the study analyzed rice consumption among 39,765 men and 57,463 women who participated in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study and the Nurses Health Study I and II; participants in the three groups ranged in age from 26 to 87.</p>
<p>They had filled out food frequency questionnaires when the studies started  in 1986, 1984 and 1991, respectively  and updated their diet information every four years subsequently, through 2005 and 2006. They were also asked about their medical histories. During the course of the studies, more than 10,000 participants developed Type 2 diabetes.</p>
<p>Such food studies can be unreliable, since they rely on self-reported surveys. And correlation does not necessarily mean a cause-and-effect relationship, since factors other than brown rice consumption may have accounted for the decreased diabetes risk that was observed. The researchers tried to control for the fact that Americans who eat brown rice tend to be more healthy overall  they eat more fruits and vegetables and less red meat and trans fats, and they also tend to be thinner, more active and less likely to smoke than those who dont eat brown rice.</p>
<p>But, Dr. Sun said, there were many possible explanations for why brown rice eaters are at lower risk for Type 2 diabetes. In addition to having a lower glycemic index than white rice, brown rice also contains important nutrients like magnesium that are stripped during the refining process; it also contains much more fiber. Earlier studies have found that having these nutrients in the diet protects against diabetes, Dr. Sun said.<br />

<p>One of the best ways to connect with your partner is in a relaxed environment.  The first thing that usually comes to mind is going out for a meal &#8211; especially when it&#8217;s a special occasion or a Saturday night but, a romantic meal can be enjoyed just as much at home as in a restaurant.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s the first phase of eating a romantic meal for two at home?  The planning phase is by far the most important phase.  You need to be sure that you&#8217;ve got all the ingredients for whatever you plan to cook and so that you can create the romantic atmosphere that will help you both to feel relaxed.</p>
<p>You need to also consider what you are going to serve.  You may want to offer fish, pasta, steak, chicken or a veggie meal.  Also, you may want to give it some international flair and serve a traditional Chinese, Italian or Indian meal.  Consider also if you want to serve a dessert and/or an appetizer.  Next, you&#8217;ll need to go through your cookbooks to find appropriate recipes and decide on what you are going to serve as a beverage.  Picking up the ingredients for your feast is the next step and you&#8217;ll need to give yourself enough time to shop so that you don&#8217;t forget any necessary items.</p>
<p>Where will you serve the meal?  You may want to consider setting up cushions around your coffee table for example.    Will you light candles, burn incense or simply use the dimmer switch?  Candles are probably the best idea unless you have pets in your home that could topple them over.  Incense on the other hand has a very strong smell and could alter the taste of the food.  So, if you desire something scented on the table, fresh cut flowers may be a better idea.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a delicious and simple recipe that&#8217;s just right for two.  Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and pour a cup of uncooked white rice on the bottom.  Next, place 4 uncooked and boneless chicken breasts over the rice.   Mix together 1 can of condensed cream of chicken, cream of broccoli or cream of asparagus soup with 1 can of water and a package of dry onion soup mix.  Pour the soup mixture over the chicken and sprinkle with breadcrumbs and grated parmesan cheese.  Bake in the oven for 1 hour and up to 1-1/2 hours.  Not only does it taste great but you can put the casserole directly on the table as it makes for a wonderful presentation that&#8217;s just right for the occasion.  Serve your chicken dish with a tossed green salad, garlic bread and ice cream with strawberries or blueberries for dessert.</p>

<p>According to a study, running on sand requires energy which is 1.6 times more than what you would need if you would be running on concrete roads or pavements. If you are planning to run on the beach, here are some things that would make your workout experience more productive and enjoyable.</p>
<p>1. First off, stay away from the areas which have soft sand. Although it could be good to challenge yourself by running on about a 50-yard stretch that has soft sand every now and then, doing so constantly could put more strain on your knees and hips at the same time throw you off balance.</p>
<p>2. It&#8217;s also wise to avoid running during the high tide. The reason being during the high tide, you&#8217;d probably be forced to run over softer sand and on an incline.</p>
<p>3. Running at low tide would definitely be a better workout, as you would have a firmer and more level surface to jog on.</p>
<p>4. Since sand on the beach is usually never level, you might want to divide the distance or the time that you spend running into two. For instance, if you would be running five miles, turn around at the 2.5-mile mark or if you would be running for an hour, you&#8217;ll want to turn around after 30 minutes. Doing this would give both your feet the same amount of time on the surface where you are running on.</p>
