<p>Suddenly, you felt a little self conscious, not to mention jealous. How can you get abs like those? The simple answer is a good diet and target exercise. A good diet that is low in fat and high in protein will lead to fat loss which will make those abs more visible. You may have strong abs, but if they have a layer of fat over them, nobody will see them. By losing weight and fat, your workout routine will be more productive and the results will be more visible.</p>
<p>There are three main groups of abs. There are the upper abs, lower abs and oblique muscles, which are the side ab muscles. A complete abs workout will target all three.</p>
<p>The oblique muscles are those on the sides of your waist. Lower abs are located around the pelvis and upper abs are around the ribs.</p>
<p>A traditional sit-up or crunch will help you isolate the upper abs. Assume the traditional sit-up position and place your hand over your upper abs. As you lift your chest, you will feel these muscles tighten. Whenever you work the upper abs, you should feel this tightening. For the lower abs, lie flat with your legs straight up in the air and toes pointing to the ceiling. Lift your butt off the floor as if you were trying to touch the ceiling with your toes. Again, with your hand, you will feel the muscle getting worked.</p>
<p>As for the oblique muscles, try lying on your back with knees bent and feet flat, similar to the first exercise mentioned. Now, swivel your hips so that both knees are pointing to one side. Do a traditional crunch with a slight twist to the side opposite the side your knees are pointing. Place a hand on that side of your waist to feel the targeted muscle.</p>
<p>The above is one exercise for each muscle group. By lying, sitting or even standing in different positions, you can find new ways to work each muscle. When you try something new, give it the test of placing your hand over the muscle to make sure it is getting worked. As you discover new exercises, you will find the best ones for you.</p>
