<p>There are a wide variety of reasons that people want to lose weight. If you understood that some of the benefits of losing weight or a lower risk of heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, cancer and a longer life, wouldn&#8217;t you be motivated to lose those excess pounds? Certainly, the answer will be yes.</p>
<p>In addition to these health benefits, you will also feel much better and look great when you lose weight. No longer will you have to settle for the shapeless plus size clothes that resemble baggy tents. Additionally, you energy levels will increase and you will be able to move around easily.</p>
<p>There may be more people concerned with their appearance rather than the health issues associated with being overweight. This becomes apparent because when they try to lose weight they choose some ridiculous crash diet plan in hopes of losing weight quickly, rather that sticking with a long term, healthy eating plan.</p>
<p>Seems pretty clear (to me at least!) their primary concern isn&#8217;t health. I think if we made health our top priority we&#8217;d get a bit further on the scale of success when trying to lose weight.</p>
<p>Reading about the health ramifications of obesity can be pretty dire. Some of the risks associated with being overweight include breathing problems, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, mobility issues, reproductive problems, discrimination, depression, and premature death.</p>
<p>The thing is, most people already know about these health consequences. But, it seems to make very little difference.</p>
<p>It seems that nearly everyone you know would like to lose weight. The current concepts and modern society dictates that thin is in, especially for women. If you one of the many people that either wants to or needs to lose weight, you should first understand exactly what your motivations are.</p>
<p>Think about why it&#8217;s so hard to replace unhealthy habits with good ones. How can you find the motivation needed to change these habits and put yourself first?</p>

<p>What makes us crave specific foods? According to research, people are more prone to binge after being restricted from certain foods. This may be partly (or even completely) psychological, since we often want what we are told we can&#8217;t have. Whether your cravings are due to a low mood, or a restricted diet, it is difficult to prevent. Here&#8217;s a list of five ways you can stop food cravings.</p>
<p>Stay hydrated. Often, when you feel hungry, your body is sending you a signal to drink more water. Water not only acts as an appetite suppressant, but it will keep your stomach full while fending off food cravings. It is also beneficial for digestion and overall well being.</p>
<p>Wait a few minutes. Have you ever noticed that cravings don&#8217;t last long? If you give them a few minutes you may just find you actually don&#8217;t need anything after all. Try doing something else to take your mind off the craving for 15 minutes, such as washing the dishes, calling a friend, or walking the dog, etc.</p>
<p>Avoid your trigger foods. You crave what you eat, so if you switch what you&#8217;re eating, you can weaken your old cravings and strengthen new ones.</p>
<p>When training your body to adapt to no trigger foods, keep in mind that the first days may be difficult. While it may not be possible to completely get rid of cravings for certain foods, avoiding the culprits may help you crave them less often.</p>
<p>When the urge for a certain food hits, opt for a healthy snack. Ignoring your cravings, or trying to wash it down with a glass of water may not always work. Instead, drink a large glass of water and eat about 1 ounces of unsalted nuts/seeds to satiate your craving.</p>
<p>An occasional indulgence doesn&#8217;t hurt. Allow yourself to splurge on occasion. This is a great strategy for many people. The thing you want to keep in mind is portion control. This means that if you have an urge for chocolate, keep the portions minimal, and go for high quality chocolate. High cocoa content, with at least 70% cocoa, is even believed to be good for you, with disease fighting antioxidants important for your health.</p>

<p>The first and most common reason is that there are various ethical problems that arise from eating meat. Most people may think that debeaking chickens, forcing them to live in small cages, and slaughtering them when they don&#8217;t produce eggs fast enough is inhumane.</p>
<p>Most vegetarians also find it bothersome to have animals live in such crowded and stressful environments. The fact that most of these animals are fed with hormone-laden feed doesn&#8217;t help either.</p>
<p>People who become vegetarians because of this often draw ethical boundaries at different points, depending on their ethical beliefs. For example, some vegans will not even eat yeast, wear wool, or eat certain vegetables like carrots, which require killing the plant to harvest.</p>
<p>On the opposite side of the spectrum, some find it sensible enough to at least have fish and chicken in their diet.</p>
<p>The second most popular reason that most vegans make the switch is because eating meat conflicts with their dietary preferences, while some simply don&#8217;t enjoy the texture and taste of meat. Others avoid meat for health concerns, especially those who are having problems with high cholesterol.</p>
<p>The third reason that vegetarians state is the fact that consuming meat can potentially harm the environment. They claim that the consumption of meat causes farmers to continually deforest land; just so grazing lands can be created for cattle.</p>
