<p>Coming from a person who once weighed 260 pounds, the grass is definitely greener on the other side. I once wore a size 24 and now slip into a slender size 2. Although my singing voice was not better 130 pounds heavier, there are many more enjoyable things I can now do. Instead of not being able to walk to the park with my 4 kids and falling asleep at 3 in the afternoon we all now run to the park and play on the slides together. I even challenge them on the swing from time to time. We have a new improved relationship.</p>

The solution is not as simple as telling patients to consume less food and I am personally familiar with this scenario from both sides of the weight loss fence. To date, I have lost over 120 pounds participating in the weight loss program offered by the Center for Medical Weight Loss (CMWL). I believe so strongly in their philosophy and products that I incorporated my professional career into my weight loss endeavor. I serve as the Weight Loss Specialist at the Center for Medical Weight Loss on University Drive, in Pembroke Pines, Florida. In my opinion, obesity is a disease plaguing the majority of Americans and as such the symptoms need to be treated under the direction of physicians through an individually customized weight loss program.</p>
<p>As Americans we are constantly bombarded through the media to be thin and the rising costs of healthcare are through the roof as a result of our nation being overweight. There are numerous rewards and benefits afforded to people who maintain a healthy lifestyle including emotional stability, becoming medication free and statistically less prone to life shortening diseases. Each day, I am approached by our patients asking me, &#8220;What should my normal weight be?&#8221; I tell them that normal weight needs to be gauged on an individual basis. On average, a person&#8217;s weight routinely fluctuates between 10 and 15 pounds. This does not mean the patient can not be considered healthy; on the contrary, I advise patients to avoid being consumed with these numbers and understand that this weight variation should be considered a safe zone allowing leeway for other things to develop such as self-esteem, empowerment and positive thinking. There is a fine line between normal weight and being categorized as overweight and once a patient&#8217;s weight loss maintenance has begun, I do not like to see them gain more than five pounds from their goal weight. According to Webster&#8217;s Dictionary, the definition of overweight is, &#8220;the property of excessive fatness&#8221;. The term obese is classified as, &#8220;excessively fat&#8221;, or a &#8220;weighty man&#8221;. In the world of medicine we categorize a patient&#8217;s weight by determining their body mass index (BMI). The BMI provides the physician a definitive number which is used to calculate the percentage of body fat a person possesses. For example, a person between 20-25 is considered within the normal weight range. An individual scoring within 25-30 is categorized as overweight and those scoring between 30-40 are considered obese. Individuals scoring greater than 40 are categorized as morbidly obese and potentially 100 pounds overweight. Who is to say that a person within the normal range does not have 10-15 pounds more than the individual who&#8217;s BMI is closer to 20?</p>
<p>From a health standpoint the physicians at CMWL feel that it makes more sense to define obesity in terms of fat percentage and not solely by measuring weight or BMI. A normal fat percentage can range anywhere from 20-30% for women and 18-25% for men. Our practice also has proprietary equipment that provides us with a full body composition analysis which can be used to determine a patient&#8217;s fat percentage, resting metabolic rate and daily caloric count. This means that all of us are afforded some room to grow. According to Dr. Cohn-Gelwasser, &#8220;there may not be many benefits associated with carrying a little extra weight; however, being too thin can be extremely dangerous.&#8221; For example, a BMI less than 20 is categorized too thin. Gelwasser analyzes every patient with a battery of tests to insure that there are no signs of anorexia, bulimia or malnutrition. At CMWL, we always perform a comprehensive blood screening to determine whether or not there are any underlying medical conditions contributing to low body weight. . These results are needed to drop body fat to its lowest possible percentage while maintaining muscle mass and water percentage. <p>So here is how to tone your arms the right way:</p>
<p>1. Use specificity: While it&#8217;s important to burn fat off your entire body for the best results, you also need to be very specific with exercises that directly tone your arm muscles. In fact, research shows that you can increase local levels of growth hormone in your arms.</p>
<p>2. Make sure you work the area where loose arm fat is hanging from: And the best way to do this is by exercising the long head of your triceps. This area is where the sagginess resides. One great exercise here is overhead tricep extension with a dumbbell.</p>
<p>3. Target the medial head of your triceps: Although the medial head isn&#8217;t as prominent as the long head, you should still target it for best results. And a great way to do this is by using reverse grips with your pushdowns. Simply modify any regular pushdown movement by reversing your grip.</p>
<p>4. Target the lateral head of your triceps: Although the lateral head isn&#8217;t where arm fat hangs from, you still want to exercise it for complete toning. Moreover, it&#8217;s the part of your tricep that is most visible from the side. So make sure you do some pressdowns with a regular grip.</p>
<p>5. Work the front part of your arms: In other words, don&#8217;t forget to exercise your biceps. Keep in mind that this group of muscle is the first group someone will see when looking at you from the front. Similar to the triceps, make sure you use a variety of exercises and grips.</p>
<p>6. Don&#8217;t become a cardio bunny: You need to lift weights at least 3 times per week for best results. There is no way around this. Keep in mind that no other exercise modality can change your body the way weight lifting does. It can literally change you at the cellular level.</p>

<p>I would actually go as far to say that weight lifting is far superior to cardiovascular exercise for improving health.</p>
<p>So here is why I am making these bold statements:</p>
<p>1. Less cigarette addictions: The research is clear here, people who exercise are less likely to smoke cigarettes. Perhaps the investment in exercise creates additional motivation to not damage the results by smoking.</p>
<p>2. Less insulin output: With weight lifting, your body needs less and less insulin to get carbohydrates into your muscles. This translates into lower levels of blood sugar and reduced risk for diabetes. And recall that diabetes is currently plaguing our country.</p>
<p>3. Better eating patterns: Regular gym rats are more likely to eat healthier. Now there are a lot of explanations for this. Maybe the investment in regular exercise is a very strong motivator for eating clean to reap the most benefit from the exercise.</p>
<p>4. Better weight control: Your metabolism dictates how many calories you burn even while you sleep. Thus, increasing your metabolism is the best way to lose weight. And the best way to increase your metabolism is with lifting weights.</p>
<p>5. Optimized mental states: The research is clear here as well, weight training reduces the risk of depression and can buffer the effects of chronic stress. This happens because weight training can actually change the levels of different hormones in your body.</p>
<p>6. Everything gets easier: As your body gets stronger, everything you do will seem easier. And if everything you do seems easier, life will be that much sweeter!</p>
<p>As you can clearly see, weight lifting is not just about aesthetics. There is much more to lifting weight than just looking good!</p>
<p>And remember to take action on this information now rather than later or you just might forget what you have learned!</p>

Unfortunately, most women do not know how to get toned arms and all those sexy tops they have simply remain in the closet. But there is a way, and I am going to show you the way.</p>
<p>I never had toned arms as a young woman. And I wanted them so badly. I tried almost everything out there in an attempt to finally go sleeveless.<br />

You can learn from my mistakes and expertise. I don&#8217;t want you to waste all the time that I wasted. Here are some things to look out for when learning about arm exercises for women:</p>
<p>1. You can&#8217;t spot reduce. It&#8217;s true that you can&#8217;t selectively lose arm fat from only one area in your body. However, arm fat is only part of the equation. Moreover, I&#8217;ve seen countless women lose tons of fat and still not have toned arms. The key is to focus on tightening the arm muscle, and on changing the amount of water and carbohydrate within the muscle.</p>
<p>2. Push-ups are an excellent exercise for the back of the arm. Most of the push-up movement targets your chest, not your arms. Does it make sense to spend time doing an exercise that doesn&#8217;t tighten up your arms? Of course not! I cringe every time I hear an &#8220;expert&#8221; claiming that this is one of the best arm exercises for women.<br />

3. Triceps dips are a must. Do enough triceps dips and the AC joint in your shoulder can wear out. Once your AC joint wears out, surgery is the only way to fix it. Stay away from dips at all costs. There are other equally effective exercises for your arms.</p>
<p>4. Kick-backs. These are ok if you want to momentarily fill your triceps with blood, but not ok if you want to tone your arms as quickly as possible. Because of the position your body is in when doing this exercise, it&#8217;s impossible to add a lot of weight to the movement without compromising your form. Without a lot of weight, you can&#8217;t tone your arms quickly.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there about arm exercises for women. Never has it been so confusing for women to get the right answers when they need them: now. But now you know what to look out for before starting your sexy arm workout program!</p>
